Linkedin Local is a bit of a networking phenomenon that is spreading globally at a rapid pace. The thinking behind these events is that it is an opportunity to actually meet the contacts that you have on Linkedin ‘in the real world’. This enables you to develop business relationships, but in a relaxed social way. It makes a nice change to the normal, stand up and pitch for 60 seconds networking.
So this week saw the inaugural ‘Linkedin Local Portsmouth’. The brainchild of organisers Ian Gribble and Carl Hewitt. A couple of months ago they sat down and put a plan in place, which included finding a venue and to get an idea of how much interest there would be in the local area.
The Village Hotel near Lakeside was chosen as the venue and the date was set. Interest in the event grew rapidly, with bookings passing the 150 mark. All proceeds from the evening were donated to a local charity, Breast Cancer Haven in Titchfield. As a result of the ticket sales, over £1,000 was raised.
Going by the buzz that was on Linkedin over the following days, everyone that attended thought it was a great event. So we’re all now looking forward to the next ‘Linkedin Local’ event. If there is a Linkedin Local event near you, I highly recommend that you give it a try.
